NSW 2026 dinner – Wednesday 22 July 2026

I had a lengthy discussion with our RAAF Coordinator Naomi late this morning. Here is a summary.

The date of the dinner is now set: Wednesday 22JUL26

Cut-off date for attendee applications is Wednesday 24 June 2026

Access to the base will be arranged solely by Naomi once our numbers are finalized.

For those staying at the Mercure hotel at the airport, the hotel does not have a shuttle bus. RAAF Base WLM cannot provide a bus. Our best transport to and from the function would be maxi-taxis.

I recommend that we assemble at 1800 hrs for an 1830 start. Wind-up at 2030-2100. Please advise if you think differently. Bar service is being researched.

The dress code is quite relaxed. For males, the minimum is a collared shirt and slacks. For those who wish, a jacket and tie are optional. For the ladies, appropriate dresses, or blouses and slacks.

There are no rank restrictions. Instead, we are being treated as civilians for the purpose of the function.

There is a possibility that we may have a guest speaker from Headquarters Surveillance and Response Group, or from 2 Squadron. Other base personnel may also wish to attend at their expense.

I have attached (by email, to members only) the latest howgozit for the function. I have also attached a link to the Mess Menu. I would like you to check it out. Scroll down to FORMAL DINNER PACKAGES. Each attendee please pick first and second preferences for Entree, Main Course and Dessert, and email them to me. From your responses, we will select two items from Entrees, Mains and Desserts for alternate drop catering.

Wines will be provided at each table. I suggest two reds and one white per table.
